Meliá Chiang Mai - The Best In Hospitality

Updated: Jan 9, 2023

I am back again. At Meliá Chiang Mai(click here to read my previous review). & this time at the new Presidential Suite that was just opened for reservations. Upon landing at the Chiang Mai Airport, I was picked up by the hotel's car & in less than 20 minutes, arrived at the elegant Meliá Chiang Mai. I really enjoyed the smiles when I stepped into the hotel, everyone still remembers me & is so sincere & beaming with true hospitality. I am extremely pleased to meet Ms Vipasiri whom we exchanged so many email correspondence with & who is ever so kind & helpful.

I checked into The Level Presidential Suite which combines luxury with modern elements. Everything in this suite is top notch. The calmness of the colours from the flooring to cushions, lights, beddings is perfect. The entire design encompasses what a modern discerning traveller would expect.

The Level Presidential Suite

It is luxury at its best. With 2 bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen area as well as as the incredible view of Chiang Mai, we were just blown away.

The Level Presidential Suite

Bathtub In Master Bedroom

This is basically the biggest bathtub that I have seen so far. As you can see, the bubble bath was absolutely enjoyable & necessary.

The Level Lounge

Living in the Presidential Suite gave me unlimited access to The Level Lounge which is an exclusive space where you enjoy perks like a private check-in & late check-out, exclusive breakfast service, afternoon tea as well as cocktails/ wine/ champagne (basically alcohol) & snacks in the evening for the grown ups.

The Level Lounge

The beautiful & classy executive lounge is designed in a salute to Chiang Mai's Bo Sang Umbrella Village. You can see large lit installations of umbrella ribs cling to the ceiling. Various artworks of umbrella canopies hang on the walls, such as those made from antique Chiang Mai textiles. The carpet’s concentric patterns, in the likes of gun-metal gray, periwinkle and soft amber hues, reference umbrella tops in a striking yet subdued way.

Mai Restaurant & Bar is situated on the hotel’s 21st floor with panoramic views of the city & famed Doi Suthep Temple on the mountaintop. This intimate fine-dining restaurant serving contemporary Northern Thai dishes with Mediterranean influences accompanied by spectacular vistas is an absolute finesse. Under the stewardship of award-winning executive chef Suksant Chutinthratip (Billy) & sous chef Karn Phojun, the menu celebrates traditional Lanna cuisine in a contemporary fashion with Mediterranean touches. Each dish is so distinctive due to profound combinations of ingredients & textures, & the ‘360° Cuisine’ program promotes healthy & sustainable eating based on ‘farm to plate’ & ‘plate to farm’ processes.

Mai Restaurant & Bar

I had a wonderful evening at the restaurant watching the sunset, drinking wine & champagne & of course savouring the artisanal dishes. The Prik Num Yud Sai Moo which has blistered green chili stuffed with pork mousse & feta cheese crumbles opens up your appetite. The Hoi Shell Tom Khamin which is a fresh turmeric broth with scallops, lemongrass, kaffir lime, shallot & zucchini pearls & bird's eye chili tantalises your taste buds with that aromatic flavour. For the mains, I tried the Pla Salom Nham Prik Oung, which is a baked fillet of Atlantic salmon with nham prik oung. This dish is served with yellow lemon, sautéed gurmar leaves & steamed pandan rice. I personally feel that chef put a lot of thought into this dish. The combination of the perfectly done salmon marrying the fragrant pandan rice is a match made in heaven. Gai Banja Neung Khamin is a slow cooked thigh of brown rice fed chicken served with hot tomato relish, chayote, long beans & butternut. The chicken is so tender & the condiments presented brings this dish to another level.

360° Cuisine program - Video by Meliá Chiang Mai

Under the hotel’s ‘360° Cuisine’ program, its kitchen works closely with ORI9IN The Gourmet Farm in San Sai District, sourcing ‘farm to plate’ organic produce. The aim is to use as much pf each ingredient – roots, leaves, stems, stalks & more – before ‘plate to farm’ food waste & then returns to the farm as fertilizer in a truly 360° concept.

There is also a packaged priced at THB 8,800 nett per room for two which includes two nights in a Meliá Room, daily breakfast for two, & a day trip for two to the scenic farm inclusive of a picnic lunch.
